About the Journal

The aim of the journal is to publish outstanding research by current and recently graduated research students and academics in the School of Education, Communication, and Language Sciences. Through this platform we aim to support the transition of contributors, from research students to established academics, within the global university landscape. Given that examiners of doctoral often assess the publishable of material, undergoing the publication process beforehand can be advantageous for doctoral students helping them build a robust portfolio and enhance their academic experience. Post-doctoral students are also welcome to submit their work for publication.

Our publication encompasses a diverse range of literature types, covering the entire spectrum of research undertaken within the School of ECLS, with a strong emphasis on 'Education', 'Communication', and 'Language Sciences'. We are particularly keen on work that intersects these disciplines. In previous years we have successfully published ARECLS volumes with a special edition (Vol.18, Issue 2) that considered the theme of ‘Intervention and Research Practice. These volumes, along with our regular publications, serve to empower PGR students, enrich their academic journey, and contribute to the global research narrative. Access to these volumes can be accessed through our current volume page.

We are keen for ECLS staff and students to submit:
- Empirical investigations
- Progress reports of research
- Updates about innovations in your discipline
- Book reviews
- Topic overviews’ (e.g., discussions of methodology, and/or ongoing debates in your field)
- Interviews with colleagues in your academic area

We aim to be flexible while still maintaining integrity regarding the quality of a submission. We are especially keen to see original student work. If you are not sure about your work’s suitability, please contact ARECLS: arecls@newcastle.ac.uk. Further details on submission criteria can be found on our Submissions and Guidelines pages. Submissions to the journal are reviewed by the Editorial Board, consisting of academics and research students, using a critical process of blind peer review. Please see our guidelines for journal manuscripts page for more information. If you are interested in seeing previous accepted submissions, and the previous versions of our journal, we recommend visiting our archive page.
